Capybaras hanging out at our hotel in Pantanal!
Looking for a grand adventure in the Americas, PA and I traveled to the Pantanal, the world’s largest tropical wetland, in search of capybaras, jaguars, and many other creatures!

Capybabies!
We saw dozens of capybaras, including some grazing right outside our room at dusk and dawn. They are super chill per their reputation and had a lot of babies since they reproduce like any other rodent. It was so cute to see them both resting in the shade of a tree and swimming in the river.

Jaguar Ti that we followed for awhile
On the jaguar front, we saw four, including one amazing encounter with Ti, a female who swam across the river in front of us, faced down two giant river otters (and ran!), and strolled along the riverbank looking for her next meal. We also saw a male Bagua drag out his caiman dinner and a female Sakeka napping in the shade.

Giant anteater with baby on its back
We enjoyed many more encounters with giant anteaters (with a baby on its back!), giant river otters, agouti, guinea pigs, tapirs, an anaconda, and a vast array of bird species, including the silly potoo, hyacinth macaw, tiger herons, kingfishers, jabiru storks, and roseate spoonbills. Between both boat and car safaris, any day out in nature is a great day!
